Alma Hyde Female

Born: 6-Nov-1884
Died: 1-Dec-1942

On the night of Sunday 17th November 1940 Alma was on the stairs of 2 Brooksby Street when the adjacent building, at the corner of Liverpool Road, took a direct hit from an incendiary bomb in one of the worst bombing raids of the Blitz of the second world war. The extend of any damages to the shop and home or any physical injuries, to Alma or the family, is unknown but this experience, together with the early death of her son, Albert whom she was still morning, some eighteen months earlier contributed to her Melancholia and death two years latter.

Such was the state of Alma's mental condition that she was admitted to Banstead Hospital on 21 March 1942 as a "Certified" patient "rate-aided", therefore not a voluntary or private patient but was not restrained or secluded and remained there until being discharged "Recovered" on 6 July 1942 to 74 Eyhurst Road, Elm Park, Hornchurch, having been the subject of a four week trial commencing 8th June 1942.
